1. Death to Facebook privacy.*

Seriously. This whole media privacy campaign has started infringing on my well-being and I’m not pleased. Just now I could not look at my friends’ wedding pictures because the photographer (don’t even know who) decided to set all her photos to friends only. I’m sure that careers were saved thanks to the confidentiality of these images.

I mean… untag yourself from compromising photographs. But other than that, srsly guys? Think about this for a minute: have you even ever posted scandalous pictures of yourself? You are the one posting. You are the arbiter of whether a picture is appropriate for exposure to the whole internet. If you don’t want people seeing a picture of you, my advice is do not put it on the internet.

Maybe even worse are the addresses and phone numbers. You know, back before facebook, before our faked digital identities were plastered all over the internet, before the death of all privacy, you know where they posted addresses and phone numbers?

The phone book. That’s where. Your contact info was delivered, by hand, to every person in your city/town/unincorporated area.

The thing that bugs me the most is that Facebook is the perfect replacement for keeping your own address book. I mean, who keeps track of my friends’ addresses and cell phone numbers better than they themselves? If everybody kept their Facebook updated, recipients of my postcards would be surprised by actually getting them, instead of being surprised by my begging for addresses on, where else, Facebook. But nope. Wouldn’t dream of putting that stuff up and marking it friends-only, because God knows what would happen if all my friends could like… get ahold of me and/or send me postcards.

*whew* oh well. Anyway sorry for bothering everybody, I guess I should get back to tweaking my facebook privacy settings.

    * I know I know this has been a 100% rant-free blog up until now. But I’ve gotta get this out of my system, and I think I have a pretty good point.
